About Us

BioBike 2007
We are a group of seven Mechanical Engineering students from the University of Adelaide in South Australia, designing and building a biodiesel powered motorbike, which we will ride in the 2007 Panasonic World Solar Challenge in October.
In 2006 the BioBike Project Team from the University of Adelaide successfully designed, manufactured and tested Australia’s first biodiesel motorbike. They demonstrated that a motorbike fuelled by biodiesel can perform comparably to a traditional motorbike and they tailored it for agricultural applications so farmers can use a single environmentally friendly fuel in all of their motorised equipment.
This year the 2007 BioBike Team will take the project further, building a new bike based on the highly successful 2006 prototype. The 2007 model will optimise the properties of biodiesel, by improving on the engineering of the 2006 BioBike, including a higher power output and greater fuel efficiency, and it will fully comply with the Australian Design Rules and will be registered for general road use.

A Word from the ManagerHeidi McNamara - 13 Jun 07
Hi, my name is Heidi McNamara and I would like to formally introduce myself as the Project Manager for this year’s project. You may have heard that last year’s team performed exceptionally in the end of year presentations at Adelaide University, receiving Best Overall Project for 2006. We would like to congratulate them on this achievement, and let me say those are big shoes to fill for a new project!
This year we have many exciting events occurring, some of which have already been. The major one of course is the 2007 Panasonic World Solar Challenge in October this year, which we all look forward to with equal parts excitement and concern. Other major events include the Project Launch in March, the Project being on display at the Adelaide Motorshow and the ’06 BioBike travelling over to Japan for the 2007 Earthday Expo in Tokyo.
Project LaunchHeidi McNamara - 13 Jun 07
The Project Launch was a highly successful event held at St Mark’s College in North Adelaide. It provided the group with the opportunity to showcase our ideas and enthusiasm for the project. Many potential sponsors as well as some returning from last year attended. Our thanks go to Chris Selwood from EventSA for his address on the World Solar Challenge.
